Well happy Mothers Day everyone! Hope ya got to spend some quality time with yours. After drawing my own mother a card last night, I still had a little something left in me and this came out. It took a surprisingly short amount of time.

I think ya all know that New Mexico had Mama Pueblo.I imagine any AZ would call Navajo mother or father. And a lot of states probably had a human figure to call a parent when they were young. Sure, Stephen F. Austin is called "The Father of Texas", and rightfully so, but by the time he came around Texas was at least teenager already. When he was really, really young, the closest he ever came to having a mother was "Tia Toni".

San An is as old dirt. Sure others are older, but Nacagdoches wasn't ever as prevalent and El Paso was part of the land that was New Mexico until the later 1800's, plus he was closer to the cultures west of him anyway. San Antonio was one of the earliest, starting out as a bunch of missions and forts. The combination of these made her a strong character, and a very protective and caring person. She was also fairly well connected among the old Spanish settlements and wasn't a small trading center, so she handled a lot for the state.

So to me all that stuff, all long before the Alamo, makes a strong case for her being one of the more motherly figures to all the Texans. She'd look out for the young state, give him moral guidance, scold him when he needed, and clean him up when he fell down. She's always been there, looking out for him in some capacity. She's watched him grow up his whole life, and they share a bond that cannot be broken, that can only be called familial. You could turn that into a case for why the events of 1836 had such a strong impact, and why the feelings carry into today.

So this was back sometime in the 1700s probably. This would be a typical scene, Texas dragging her out of bed way to early in the morning to show her some weird ting or another. She'd be a bit cranky at first, scolding him for geting all dirty before the sun even come up, but then be won over by him enthusiasm for whatever he wanted her to see.

Also, can you tell I gave up on cloths? :D Yes, lil' Tex is wearing a serape, I couldn't figure out what the hell little boys would wear. Hey, they're traditionally made in Coahuila I believe, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say he had one. He still owns 50 10 a few like that today. And San An's wearing the sam rosary beads she had today. In my head cannon she made them herself as a little girl , a while after the first mission in her area.

Anyway, hope ya enjoy. Juan/Texas and Alejandra/San Antonio © Me

Aw! It's way nice to see San An being such a mother/big sis to everyone. I love it when she shows that sensitivity. That vulnerability.
